Islands in a deserted sea

Baja California is a 1,000—mile-long desert peninsula. The Sea of Cortez, which separates it from the mainland, is full of islands and teems with life: despite the barren nature of the islands, the ocean currents attract huge schools of fish and predators. It is one of the richest biological reservoirs on the planet, and the calm waters between the islands serve as an ideal breeding ground for marine creatures.
