The famous pilot and isolationist Charles Lindbergh won the election in 1940 and became the new president of the United States. With Lindbergh coming to power, anti-Semitism is flourishing in the country. The president publicly accuses Jews of trying to drag the country into a war with Nazi Germany and negotiates non-intervention with Adolf Hitler. While Lindbergh's loud speeches are blaring from the radios, young Philip Levine and his family and friends are watching in horror as the ideology of the new president prepares to destroy their lives.
